Daily Sparks

Statement

This project is to design/or style an existing character to branch out my cartoon style. It could be characters I made or existing TV/movie/game characters that I would like to draw. This would help me think creatively and get better at apportion.

Project Description

My project is about helping me get better at my character design and learn different types of styles of hair, body shape, gender, or anything that I need to improve on. I also want to get myself to practice more and keep drawing every day. The form for this project will be on paper or digital. My daily notations for this project is that I’ll look at references of poses, existing characters, or anything that helps build my creativity and improve my drawing skills. I have seen that everyone has their design style for drawing a character. It was cool to see how people make their characters and show them to the world. I get inspired by that and see what I can do. For example seeing others who have done this, like Alex Herich, who is the creator of Gravity Falls. He had made multiple characters design for his show, which inspired me to do art in the first place.

Project Rationals

The project is worth doing because I love doing character design and I want to get better at it. I want to be able to know how to draw different poses, make sure I draw people’s cultures and ancestry correctly and get better at trying men because I don’t know how to and overall improve my art style.

Project Plan

Yes, I know what I’m doing and hopefully, I’ll do well. I have a lot of art supplies at my dorm and at home too, so I’m prepared. I will work at my dorm or home, less stressful than in public places. I’ll document on my phone or iPad to take pictures. I’m hoping I’ll show my progress often on my blog.

Throughout the journey of drawing 40 character designs from TV shows and video games. I was able to see how I improved my own art style through this semester. At the time, I wasn’t sure what type of format I wanted to use for my sketches, but then I decided to make a book. For the book, with the help of a friend, doing a character sheet would be a great idea to show off the characters and some details about them. Like their name, age, occupation, gender, the universe they are from, and character traits. With these ideas in mind, I want to see what it’s like for someone who actually creates a character and puts a backstory for them, because that’s why character designers do.
